Tour description

Experience the Louvre on this comprehensive tour of the world's largest museum.

There’s a reason why the Louvre is the most visited museum in the world—it’s enormous! It would take days to go around it all. That’s why most visitors stick to the well-trodden path, only visiting its major works. But they sacrifice the lesser-known gems along the way. On this small group tour with maximum six people and an expert art historian guide, you'll get in-depth insight to all of the major artworks and far beyond.

Embark on a carefully planned route through the museum to make the most of your visit.

Outside the Arch du Carrousel, you’ll begin your tour by meeting your expert guide and taking a trip back in time as you lay eyes on the original stone foundations of this former fortress. Journey into the museum and try not to be distracted by the dazzling interiors as you wind your way through some of the most famous masterpieces in the world. You’ll be introduced to the Venus De Milo, the Winged Victory of Samothrace, the French Crown Jewels in the Apollo Gallery and of course, the Mona Lisa herself. But that’s just the beginning of your deep-dive into the Louvre’s collection.

See major works and hidden gems as your expert art historian guide shares fascinating stories.

You’ll be taken off the beaten path to explore some of the lesser known but equally mesmerizing pieces. Your guide will lead you into The Grand Gallery lined with works by Leonardo and Raphael, through the Hall Of The Caryatides, the former ballroom of kings and on to see some of the pinnacles of French Romanticism. Along the way, you'll learn plenty of fascinating stories that most visitors to the Louvre would never uncover—such as which of the museum's oldest objects was discovered haphazardly during the construction of a highway!

While most visitors scarcely peek beyond the surface of the Louvre, this tour will allow you to extend your artistic palette and leave you able to fully appreciate the magnificence of the vast collection.

We absolutely loved our tour of the Louvre with Marie. She knew exactly where to take us so that we got to see everything that we would not have been able to on our own. Her knowledge was amazing!

One of the better Walks tours on this trip. Our guide was mature, smart, and spoke good English. She was easy to understand and could answer questions with ease. Unfortunately this was not the case on all our Walks tours on this trip. Overall quality of English was an issue on several in both Italy and France. But this tour was excellent. Our guide, Lorenz (may be misspelling) was excellent. And of course the Louvre is such a magnificent facility and collection. Together with the Orsay, these were among the highlights of our trip. Would definitely recommend this tour and this guide. She was great!

Our guide Wei led us seamlessly through the crowds at the Louvre. He led us to major works and to areas which we did not know existed. His explanations and descriptions were very interesting. We highly recommend this tour.

Our tour guide, Emily, was fabulous. I don’t know as much about art as I’d like to but she was able to give us a great slice of this enormous museum. Part of why I wanted this tour was because I knew the museum would be overwhelming without a guide, and this was the perfect length of tour, getting to know a little about the history of the museum, and see some of the most important/popular works there, with Emily sharing her knowledge and passion. Two comments/cautions: first, the afternoon we went, the two different Louvre Walks tours were meeting up at the same time and place, and the guides had no idea what the differences between the two tours were — so despite the different descriptions and prices here, I’m fairly certain the difference is mostly what guide you get (we had paid for the more expensive tour because the other was already fully booked). Second, any mention in the descriptions of seeing the Mona Lisa at a quieter moment is pretty misleading, and the guides know this, so the company should change the phrasing of the tour descriptions now that it’s impossible to achieve.
